Just when it seemed like the Calgary Flames were free of their injury woes, another player has gone down. Winger Troy Brouwer is out week-to-week after suffering a facial fracture in Calgary’s 3-2 victory over New Jersey on Thursday night.
The Flames are currently in a playoff spot and are in the thick of a race involving four teams. Sports interaction will offer valuable odds for playoff races for the rest of the season.
It’s unclear when Brouwer was hurt, though he briefly went to the locker room in the first period in some discomfort. In 54 games with the Flames this season, playing primarily in the bottom six, Brouwer has three goals and 15 points.
The Flames are currently carrying 23 players on their roster, with Marek Hrivik, Ryan Lomberg and Curtis Lazar rotating in and out of the fourth line left wing spot alongside Matt Stajan and Garnet Hathaway. It’s unclear right now whether Brouwer will be placed on the injured reserve to open a roster spot for a player from Stockton, or whether the Flames will simply use the players they currently have and horde their remaining cap space for after the Feb. 26 trade deadline.
