Who is the Flames top prospect?

Over the past few seasons, two things have happened to the Calgary Flames fairly regularly. They’ve drafted well and have usually had a standout prospect. But they’ve also regularly graduated their top kids to the National Hockey League level fairly rapidly.
Sam Bennett? Right to the NHL. Matthew Tkachuk? Right to the NHL. By the time players like Rasmus Andersson, Dillon Dube and Andrew Mangiapane rose to prospect prominence, they were whisked into the NHL.
But due to some injuries, some surprising performances and a few other developments, you could argue that for the first time in years the Flames don’t have a bonafide top prospect in their system. If you look at it another way, though, you could make a case that they have seven:
  • Glenn Gawdin, free agent signing
  • Jakob Pelletier, first round pick in 2019
  • Emilio Pettersen, sixth round pick in 2018
  • Matthew Phillips, sixth round pick in 2016
  • Juuso Valimaki, first round pick in 2017
  • Dustin Wolf, seventh round pick in 2019
  • Dmitry Zavgorodniy, seventh round pick in 2018
Over the next seven days, we’re going to be looking at the case each player has for being considered the Flames’ top prospect. As we go along, have your say in the comments and let us know which prospect you think is the top dog.
