After skating on his own for the first several days of training camp, Calgary Flames winger Andrew Mangiapane joined the main practice group for the first time on Monday morning as he’s been recovering from a minor injury.
Via our pal Pat Steinberg, Mangiapane skated with the second group and formed a line with newcomer Nazem Kadri and prospect Matthew Phillips. Mangiapane and Kadri were both held out of the two pre-season games on Sunday night, while Phillips set up the overtime game-winner in the 3-2 Flames win in Vancouver.
A sixth-round selection by the Flames in the 2015 NHL Draft, Mangiapane has become one of the club’s developmental success stories. He’s progressed from the AHL through several NHL roles, to the point where he scored 35 goals in 2021-22. With the departure of wingers Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk this off-season, he seems primed for a larger role in 2022-23, and many have pencilled him in beside Kadri for the coming season.
Via Steinberg, the rest of the second group’s lines:

Three forwards were held out of practice on Monday due to some minor injuries, which led to some of the new forward trios in Group 2.
.@MFradiology Injury Update: Brett Ritchie (lower body, day-to-day), Emilio Pettersen (lower body, day-to-day), and Martin Pospisil (lower body, day-to-day) will not practice today.
Group 1’s lines were identical to how they were in the home game against Vancouver, aside from Chris Tanev skating with MacKenzie Weegar, which bumped Connor Mackey to being an extra skater.
