Hockey Day in Canada is nearing completion as the Calgary Flames battle the Vancouver Canucks in the late game. Flames rookie Andrew Mangiapane capped a dominant second period for his team with his first career big league goal.
Playing in his 27th career NHL game, Mangiapane has found a home on a very useful Flames fourth line alongside Derek Ryan and Garnet Hathaway. He’s had speed, he’s had tenacity, and he’s been pretty useful for the Flames even when he hasn’t played a ton in every game.
Mangiapane’s goal – a one-timer feed from Noah Hanifin – came on the team’s 17th shot of the second period, rewarding the team for one of their better stretches of possession hockey of the season.
