Last night, the Calgary Flames kicked off their Stanley Cup journey with a one-sided Game 1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche, and Andrew Mangiapane got the party started with a beautiful individual effort that resulted in a goal that certainly deserves another look.
After picking the puck up along the boards, Mangiapane displayed all-world puck skills, patience, and silky smooth hands as he dissected the Avs’ defensive zone coverage with ease and charged his way towards the front of the net. From kicking the puck up from his skate to his stick and all of the dekes in between, Mangiapane’s abilities were on full display as he weaved his way through the offensive zone and deposited a backhander into the empty cage. Frankly, this could be one of the prettiest first career playoff goals that we’ve ever seen.
After the game, Matthew Tkachuk described Mangiapane’s goal:
“Unbelievable, I mean honestly, some buildings are really loud in the NHL that we’ve played in the regular season, like really, really loud and that was the loudest I’ve ever heard after that goal. What a goal. It was unbelievable.”
