The most talented player in the league sustained an injury on Monday evening.
In the first shift of their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid was tripped unintentionally by Zack Werenski, crashing ankle first into the boards.
After attempting to skate, McDavid called to the bench while not putting any weight on the left leg. A few minutes after going doing the tunnel, the Oilers announced that McDavid would not return to the game.
After dominating the first shift, the Oilers would take a penalty shortly after, starting the spiral. Former Flame Sean Monahan scored to put the Flames up 1-0 and he also scored the goal to make it 6-0, before the Oilers scored with less than half a minute left in the game.
According to Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch after the game, McDavid is returning to Edmonton and will be evaluated again. It appears that the Oilers will be calling up a player from their American Hockey League team.

Jake McCabe signed an extension with the Leafs

It was reported on Monday morning that Leafs’ defenceman Jake McCabe signed a five-year, $20.5 million deal worth $4.51 million annually.
The left-shot defenceman was selected in the second round of the 2012 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. McCabe spent his first eight seasons in the National Hockey League with the team, scoring 18 goals and 77 points in 353 games. During the summer of 2021, he signed a four-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, scoring six goals and 42 points in 130 games.
Before the 2023 trade deadline, he and Sam Lafferty were traded to the Leafs in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2025 draft, along with some other assets. Since joining the Leafs, McCabe has nine goals and 36 points in 103 games.

Matt Rempe recalled by the Rangers

On Monday morning, the New York Rangers recalled Matt Rempe.
The 22-year-old forward made a name for himself late in the 2023-24 season, fighting some of the league’s best enforcers like Matt Martin, Kurtis MacDermid, and Ryan Reaves. In the 17 regular season games he played, he scored a goal and an assist, but also picked up 71 penalty minutes.
Rempe also joined the Rangers in the postseason, where he scored a goal in 11 games as the Rangers fell in six games to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Finals. So far in the 2024-25 season, the right-shot centre has played two games with the Rangers and their American Hockey League team, the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he has been held pointless.
