On Thursday’s episode of Barn Burner, Boomer, Pinder, and Rhett previewed the Boston Bruins visiting the Dome on Thursday evening, as well as a potential hole that the Bruins could fill with a trade for Noah Hanifin.
The last time these two teams clashed was the first game back from the All-Star break. The Flames came out firing to kick off their eastern road trip with a dominant 4-1 victory. While the Flames go for the season series sweep tonight, the boys broke down what tonight’s rematch could look like.
“The last game was a 4-1 sleepwalk for the Bruins.” said Boomer, “That was a down spot for the Boston Bruins and they are going to be just fine.”
Pinder added on the Bruins less than stellar performance, “They gotta be better, that’s probably as bad as they’ve looked all year. They had four home losses before that game and the Flames were all over them.”
An interesting storyline to keep an eye on sprouted from a Matt Grzelcyk lower-body injury after taking a whack from Oilers forward Ryan McLeod during last night’s game. He did not return after being helped off the ice by his teammates and heading down the tunnel. Grzelcyk is currently listed as a day-to-day. With Charlie McAvoy down a riding partner on the first pairing, it gives the Boston scouting staff a chance to get a look at one of the premier free agent defencemen available at this year’s trade deadline tonight.
“It does come back to again that there is an appetite for Hanifin to go to the US. He’s an American kid, wants to go to the US, Frank [Seravalli] has been talking about that for weeks,” said Boomer when the prospect of Hanifin potentially being involved in a trade to the Bruins arose. “I know he’s from Boston. I just see him as a Bruin and it does feel like he ends up there when it’s all done. I don’t feel Tampa. I’m sure he’d be fine in Tampa, but it does feel like he’d be a Bruin.”
The Bruins will have the chance to see Hanifin in action first-hand tonight to help determine if they want to throw their name in the ring of the growing list of suitors that are also trying to make a move for the 27-year old.
