Breaking down the 2026-27 Flames schedule

The Calgary Flames’ 2026-27 season begins with a traditional 7 p.m. weeknight game at the Saddledome. Their season ends with a traditional 8 p.m. Saturday night game at the Saddledome, currently the final hockey game of any sort slated for that historic establishment of sport.
In-between, though, the Flames’ schedule has a few oddities and quirks worth exploring.
Let’s dive in.
Some of the start times may seem weird
Alright, so Alberta is no longer doing time changes, having opted for permanent Mountain Daylight Time. That means that there’s some time shifting involved this season to coordinate Calgary (and Edmonton) home games with everyone else.
Here’s a quick rundown of start times for games this season, split between home and away. All times MT.
Home | Away | |
12:00 | 0 | 2 |
1:30 | 0 | 1 |
2:00 | 0 | 1 |
2:30 | 4 | 0 |
6:00 | 5 | 19 |
6:30 | 3 | 2 |
7:00 | 19 | 3 |
7:30 | 3 | 2 |
7:45 | 0 | 1 |
8:00 | 6 | 5 |
9:00 | 2 | 6 |
Farewell, 5 p.m. MT starts on the east coast. Welcome, 6 p.m. MT starts on the east coast.
Do you like 7 p.m. MT weeknight home games? Good news, they’re mostly back. Of the 28 weeknight games at the Saddledome, 19 are at 7 p.m. The rest of them are either slightly earlier or slightly later, likely depending on television time slots.
Do you like 8 p.m. MT Saturday home games? Well, of the 10 Saturday games, four are at 8 p.m.., two are at 9 p.m., and four are at 2:30 p.m. So start times vary a bit. We’re not totally against the early Saturday starts, though, as it means fans can go to the game and then enjoy their evenings.
In terms of overall travel, it’s not bad for the Flames. Per Bill Speros of Bookies.com, the Flames schedule involves 43,176 miles (or 69,485 kilometers) travelled. That’s 18th in the NHL, and lower than any other Pacific Division team.
Via Oilersnation’s Jason Gregor: The Flames’ eight back-to-back sets are tied with Vegas for the fewest for any team in the NHL. They also play 15 games against a team playing on the second half of a back-to-back, and they’re one of the teams with the most situations like that.
All-in-all, some of the start times are a bit odd, but the amount of travel and back-to-backs the Flames have are a pretty nice trade-off.
The Flames begin their 2026-27 regular season at home on Thu., Oct. 1 when they host the Seattle Kraken.
