After a pretty entertaining hockey game on Saturday, it’s time for a rematch in Orange County. The Calgary Flames (0-5-0, 0 points) are headed to the Honda Center looking for their first win of the season as they face the Anaheim Ducks (4-1-0, 8 points). The Flames played a good game on Saturday with bad miscues at key moments. They’ll try to fix those mistakes in their second match-up with Anaheim.
Today’s broadcast begins at 7:45 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and QR Calgary! It’s a weird start time because of ESPN’s annual Frozen Frenzy event, which features all 32 teams in action with staggered start times. Tune in for Warmies before the game and After Burner following the game on the Barn Burner YouTube channel!

The Flames

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Aydar Suniev – Morgan Frost – Matt Coronato
Yegor Sharangovich – Mikael Backlund – Joel Farabee
Matvei Gridin – Ryan Strome – Maxim Tsyplakov
Jonathan Castagna – Martin Pospisil – Adam Klapka
Kevin Bahl – Simon Nemec
Jake Middleton – Zayne Parekh
Yan Kuznetsov – Zach Whitecloud
We’re projecting Dustin Wolf to start in net, continuing the goalie rotation, backed up by Devin Cooley. The Flames’ extras look to be Joel Hanley and Brennan Othmann. In short: they’re running back the lineup that put together a pretty rock-solid 40 minutes against the Ducks on Saturday before it got away from them.
The Flames are searching for their first win and standings point. Whenever they get that first point, it’ll be the latest they’ve ever done so in a season. Bear in mind, though: this is the first year of the accelerated rebuild, so if they were going to set that sort of record, this would be the year they would do it. They’re kicking off a short two-game western swing, finishing it off in Vegas on Thursday.
Here’s hoping for a good 60 minutes and something new for everyone to discuss in terms of the game’s result.

The Ducks

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Beckett Sennecke – Leo Carlsson – Sam Colangelo
Nikita Nesterenko – Mikael Granlund – Alex Killorn
A.J. Greer – Frank Vatrano – Nikita Klepov
Jeff Malott – Tim Washe – Judd Caulfield
Jackson Lacombe – Noah Warren
Pavel Mintyukov – Drew Helleson
Tyson Hinds – Tristan Luneau
We’re projecting Lukas Dostal to start in net, backed up by Ville Husso. It looks like Drew Helleson will be activated from the injury reserve to play against the Flames. Meanwhile, it seems like the Ducks will be without both Cutter Gauthier and Ryan Poehling after they left Saturday’s game. The healthy extra looks to be Nick Jensen. The Ducks have called up Roger McQueen from the AHL and sent Travis Mitchell to the AHL, so we’ll see how lines shake out and if McQueen makes his NHL debut.
The Ducks are a bit banged up all of a sudden, but they’re a pretty smart, fast, talented team. They have a fun mix of younger players surrounded by some key vets, and Jackson Lacombe is quietly one of the top defenders in the NHL. As we saw on Saturday night, they’re a tough out, even on a back-to-back.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Jonathan Huberdeau and Sam Honzek.
The Ducks are without Troy Terry, Ian Moore, Ryan Poehling and Cutter Gauthier.
