Calgary Flames announce 2023 development camp roster and schedule

A mixture of the Calgary Flames’ top prospects, along with a sprinkling of invited players, will descend upon Winsport from July 6-8 for the club’s 2023 development camp. The club announced the camp’s roster and schedule on Tuesday afternoon.

The roster

38 players are attending camp: 5 goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 21 forwards.
Goaltenders:
  • Prospects: Arsenii Sergeev
  • AHL contracts: Matt Radomsky, Connor Murphy
  • Invites: Jari Kykkanen, Max Vayrynen
Murphy and Radomsky both spent time with the Wranglers last season on try-outs.
Defecemen:
  • Prospects: Jake Boltmann, Yan Kuznetsov, Etienne Morin, Jeremie Poirier (non-participant)
  • AHL contract: Jarrod Gourley
  • Invites: Callum Chisholm, Charles Cote, Mikael Diotte, Tyson Galloway, Quinn Mantei, Donovan McCoy, John Prokop
Galloway is a member of the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen. He was a 2021 NHL Draft selection by St. Louis but did not sign with the Blues.
Forwards:
  • Prospects: Parker Bell, Lucas Ciona, Matt Coronato, Samuel Honzek, Rory Kerins, Adam Klapka, Jaden Lipinski, Cade Littler, Ilya Nikolaev, Topi Ronni, William Stromgren
  • AHL contract: Mark Duarte
  • Invites: Nick DeGrazia, Tyson Gross, Patrick Guzzo, Chad Hillebrand, Cole Huckins, Adam Kydd, Oliver Peer, Nathan Pilling, Oliver Tulk
Tulk is a current member of the Hitmen, while Adam Kydd played with the Hitmen for two and a half seasons before a trade to Kelowna. Huckins was a 2021 Flames draft selection but did not sign with the club.
Notable recent Flames draft selections not slated to attend camp, at least based on the announced roster, are Aydar Suniev (immigration), Yegor Yegorov (his team’s camp already began in Russia) and Axel Hurtig (recovery from shoulder procedure). Per Flames director of player development Ray Edwards on Tuesday’s edition of Flames Talk on Sportsnet 960, Poirier is recovering from a lower-body procedure and will attend camp but not participate on ice.

The schedule

The camp’s players will be split into two groups, Team Kiprusoff and Team Vernon:
  • Thursday (July 6): Kiprusoff at 9:30 a.m., Vernon at 11:30 a.m.
  • Friday (July 7): Vernon at 9:30 a.m., Kiprusoff at 11:30 a.m.
  • Saturday (July 8): Both groups for scrimmage at 10 a.m. (first a skills scrimmage, then a 3-on-3 scrimmage)
