With prospect camp and the 2024 Young Stars Classic complete, it’s time to get down to business.  The Calgary Flames have announced their main training camp roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
The Flames have invited 64 players to camp: 6 goaltenders, 21 defencemen and 37 forwards.On-ice sessions begin on Thursday at Winsport before moving to the Scotiabank Saddledome later in camp. They have to file a cap compliant roster of between 20 to 23 players with the league’s central registry by 3 p.m. MT on Mon., Oct. 7.
Here’s who will be in camp:

No real surprises here! The Flames have four goalies under NHL deals, plus a couple AHL-level guys that could spend a lot of time with ECHL Rapid City as they did last year. The goaltending position is wide-open after the departure of Jacob Markstrom.

As expected, just a single PTO here in the form of Tyson Barrie. Blueliner Ilya Solovyov remains an unsigned restricted free agent, but he’s listed on the camp roster so we’ll see what happens in the next day or two regarding a contract. The blueline could be wacky during camp as the Flames staff figures out the many, many (many!) new faces since last year’s camp.
Of the 21 players on this blueliner list, 14 of them did not attend Flames training camp a year ago.

Only a few AHLers or try-out players in this mix, as it’s almost exclusively players under Flames control. There are fewer new faces in this group than on the blueline, but seeing how the Flames balance all the wingers – especially young ones like Pelletier and Coronato – will be interesting, as will the battle to be the club’s third centre behind Nazem Kadri and Mikael Backlund. Cole Schwindt is an unsigned RFA, like Solovyov, but like Solovyov he was also listed in the camp roster. We’ll see what unfolds.

Pre-season schedule
