The Calgary Flames have a new player in their organization. Per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman (among others), the Flames claimed forward A.J. Greer off of waivers from the Boston Bruins on Monday morning.
The 26-year-old Greer is a left shot winger listed at 6’3″ and 207 pounds. He’s originally from Notre-Dame-des-Prairies, Quebec. He was a second-round selection of the Colorado Avalanche in 2015. Greer is currently in the second year of a two-year contract that carries a $762,500 cap hit.
Greer played his amateur hockey with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL, Boston University of the NCAA and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. Since being drafted he’s split time between the NHL and AHL with Colorado, the NY Islanders, New Jersey and Boston.
With the addition of Greer, the Flames have a 22-man active roster (and 25 players on the roster overall, including three inactive players). Assuming no other moves, the Flames will have a cap hit of $85,943,500, approximately $2,443,500 over the cap.
