After getting back in the win column on Friday night, the Calgary Flames (6-7-0, 12 points) are kicking off a three game road trip when they face the Colorado Avalanche (7-5-1, 15 points). The Flames beat Seattle on Friday night, and they’re finishing a back-to-back set against a rested Avalanche team. Can the Flames keep their run of effective hockey going, or will they get buried by the Avalanche?
Today’s broadcast begins at 8 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and QR Calgary! Tune in for Warmies before the game and After Burner following the game on the Barn Burner YouTube channel!

The Flames

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Aydar Suniev – Morgan Frost – Yegor Sharangovich
Joel Farabee – Mikael Backlund – Matt Coronato
Matvei Gridin – Martin Pospisil – Ryan Strome
Maxim Tsyplakov – Jonathan Castagna – Adam Klapka
Kevin Bahl – Simon Nemec
Jake Middleton – Zach Whitecloud
Yan Kuznetsov – Zayne Parekh
Per QR Calgary’s Derek Wills, Arsenii Sergeev will start for the Flames, backed up by Dustin Wolf. Friday’s extras were Joel Hanley and William Strömgren. It’s a back-to-back so there’s no morning skate, so we’ll see what changes we see at warm-up.
The Flames have won six of their last eight and five of their last six. The last time they faced Colorado, they were, uh, bad. The Flames were bad. They made many mistakes, and they played some pretty tentative hockey. They lost 7-3 on home ice. But they’ve built their game up quite a bit since then, and at times they’ve looked really, really good.
Matt Coronato and Joel Farabee are leading the Flames offensively right now, but a lot of other players have contributed, too. We’ll see if the Flames can keep that mojo going against a deep, fast, experienced Avalanche team.

The Avalanche

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Artturi Lehkonen – Nathan MacKinnon – Martin Necas
Gabriel Landeskog – Brock Nelson – Nicolas Roy
Jaden Schwartz – Nazem Kadri – T.J. Hughes
Parker Kelly – Fedor Svechkov – Logan O’Connor
Devon Toews – Cale Makar
Brett Kulak – Sam Malinski
Josh Manson – Brent Burns
We’re projecting Scott Wedgewood as Colorado’s starter, backed up by Mackenzie Blackwood. (The Avalanche have been rotating starters basically all season.) Their lone extra is Noah Juulsen.
The Avalanche have won two of their last three, most recently beating New Jersey by a 5-2 score on Wednesday night. Through 13 games, three Colorado players are scoring at over a point-per-game pace: Nathan MacKinnon (22 points), Martin Necas (16 points) and Artturi Lehkonen (15 points).
Even though they’ve had a (relatively) slow start by their standards, the Avalanche are a really dangerous team with a lot of weapons. We’ll see if the Flames can have a better outing than they had in their 7-3 home loss earlier in October.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Honzek, Devin Cooley and Brennan Othmann.
The Avalanche are without Zachary L’Heureux.
