The Calgary Flames will be without defenceman Chris Tanev heading into the All-Star break.

Flames bench boss Darryl Sutter provided the update Wednesday, saying he would be out of the lineup for games against Chicago on Thursday and Seattle Friday.

Tanev, who left the Flames’ game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night, could return after the break. It will provide a good chance for him to heal up an upper-body injury.

The incident happened during the first period of that game when Blue Jackets forward Eric Robinson collided with Tanev near the Flames’ bench. Tanev immediately hunched over in pain grabbing his shoulder as he left the ice.

The 33-year-old rearguard is in his third season with the Flames after joining the team as a free agent. He has one more year remaining on his deal paying him $4.5-million.

He’s appeared in 178 games for the Flames over the 2.5 seasons he’s been with the club. Over that time, he’s scored nine goals and 48 points. This season, Tanev has drawn in for 40 games scoring one goal and eight points.
