For the first time in nearly two months, the Calgary Flames have scored four goals in a single game.
The Flames netted four goals in the first two periods of Tuesday’s contest against the Nashville Predators, finally putting an end to a grim stretch in which they failed to score more than three times in 25 consecutive games — the longest such streak in franchise history.
Jonathan Huberdeau finally lifted the curse with a power-play goal at the 18:41 mark of the middle frame at Bridgestone Arena, shoveling a rebound in the crease past Predators goaltender Juuse Saros to give the Flames a 4-3 lead. Matt Coronato and Connor Zary recorded the assists on Huberdeau’s team-leading 10th goal of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Flames entered Tuesday’s game also looking to end an eight-game road losing streak. After 40 minutes of play, they had outshot the Predators by a 24-13 margin and led by the same 4-3 score on goals by Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, Kevin Rooney, and Brayden Pachal.
Huberdeau is currently riding a five-game point streak, including three goals over that span, and leads the Flames with 19 points in 29 contests this season. The 31-year-old forward is currently in the second season of the eight-year, $10.5 million AAV contract he signed with the Flames back in 2022.
The Flames last scored four goals in a single game back on October 13, when they defeated the Edmonton Oilers by a 4-1 final at Rogers Place. Rasmus Andersson, Justin Kirkland, and Anthony Mantha beat Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner in regulation time before Zary added the fourth goal into an empty net.
Despite their general offensive woes throughout the season, the Flames still rank 15th in the National Hockey League with a 13-10-5 record and 31 points in 28 games. Entering Tuesday’s action, they had only scored 74 goals, enough for 27th in the league … but still way ahead of the last-place Predators, who managed just 61 goals through their first 28 games of the 2024-25 season.
