A couple nights after having their winning streak snapped in Ottawa, the Calgary Flames (12-7-3, 27 points) are aiming to start another run when they head to Motown to face the Detroit Red Wings (9-10-2, 20 points). The Flames are coming off a loss, while the Red Wings are coming off a win. Will their fortunes change on Wednesday night?
Today’s broadcast begins at 5:30 p.m. MT on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

We’re projecting Dan Vladar to start in net, backed up by Dustin Wolf. The projected extras are Jake Bean, Tyson Barrie and Adam Klapka.
A positive from Monday’s loss: the Flames scored another power play goal, giving them man advantage goals in four consecutive games. That’s good! But they took too many penalties and allowed two power play goals! The key to victory for the Flames may just be as simple as keeping out of the penalty box and trying to generate momentum at five-on-five. When they’re able to roll their lines and wear their opposition down, the Flames are a pretty decent hockey club.
The Flames are 7-3-2 in November. Matt Coronato is the team’s points leader during the month.
The Red Wings

Vladimir Tarasenko – Dylan Larkin – Lucas Raymond

Former Flames netminder Cam Talbot is expected to start in net, backed up by Ville Husso. (Alex Lyon is nursing a minor injury.) The projected extra skater is former Flame Erik Gustafsson.
On one hand, the Red Wings are .500 in November and have been pretty inconsistent as a group along the way. On the other hand, they’ve gotten a few strong individual contributions over the month from players like Dylan Larkin (12 points) and Lucas Raymond (10 points) – those two players have combined for the winning goals on four of Detroit’s five wins. The Red Wings need a few more players to chip in, but you can’t argue with how some of their top youngsters are performing right now.
Unavailable players
The Flames are without Anthony Mantha.
The Red Wings are without Patrick Kane and Alex Lyon.
