After a few days off, the Calgary Flames (4-0-0, 8 points) are back! And they’re on the road again, heading to the Emerald City to face the Seattle Kraken (3-2-0, 6 points) at Climate Pledge Arena. Can the Flames make franchise history and run their season-opening win streak to five games? Or will they be unable to tame the Kraken?
Tonight’s broadcast begins at 8 p.m. MT on CBC, City TV, Sportsnet’s national feed, and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

The Flames

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Andrei Kuzmenko – Nazem Kadri – Matt Coronato
Jonathan Huberdeau – Martin Pospisil – Anthony Mantha
Connor Zary – Mikael Backlund – Blake Coleman
Ryan Lomberg – Justin Kirkland – Adam Klapka
Kevin Bahl – Rasmus Andersson
MacKenzie Weegar – Tyson Barrie
Jake Bean – Brayden Pachal
We’re projecting Dan Vladar to start in net, backed up by Dustin Wolf. The projected healthy extras are Daniil Miromanov and Joel Hanley. Per Sportsnet’s Pat Steinberg Kevin Rooney skated in a regular jersey at Friday’s practice, but he didn’t have a spot on a line during rushes so it appears he’ll be eased back into things. The Flames have placed Sam Honzek on the injury reserve list, but haven’t yet activated Rooney from the IR (but can at any time).
The Flames have won four in a row, but head coach Ryan Huska keeps tweaking things. Due to Honzek’s injury – and the prior injury to Yegor Sharangovich – it’s a top six role for Matt Coronato, who was excellent against Chicago. Miromanov is out after a few adequate (but unimpressive) outings, replaced by Tyson Barrie. Adam Klapka gets back in after a couple evenings as a spectator.
The Flames have never started a season with five consecutive victories. We’ll see if they can make a little franchise history against the Kraken.

The Kraken

Here’s how the Kraken looked on Thursday night against the Flyers:
Jared McCann – Shane Wright – Jordan Eberle
Jaden Schwartz – Chandler Stephenson – Oliver Bjorkstrand
Eeli Tolvanen – Matty Beniers – Andre Burakovsky
Tye Kartye – Yanni Gourde – Brandon Tanev
Vince Dunn – Adam Larsson
Jamie Oleksiak – Brandon Montour
Ryker Evans – Will Borgen
We’re projecting Philipp Grubauer to start in net, backed up by Joey Daccord. Their healthy extra is Josh Mahura.
The Kraken are a pretty unique team, with a fun mix of younger and older players. They may not be a powerhouse necessarily, but they’re fully capable of taking games over. On Thursday against the Flyers, they scored four second period goals and essentially won the game during that span.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Yegor Sharangovich, Kevin Rooney and Sam Honzek.
The Kraken are healthy.
