Is Jarome Iginla okay? Saw this clip from Hometown Giants and couldn't help it notice a change in his voice. Not sure when this was filmed.

Folks, in recent weeks we’ve seen a bit of speculation about the health of Canadian hockey icon Jarome Iginla all over social media.
The speculation seems to stem from clips from the Amazon series Hometown Giants, which that follows the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants, and celebrity owners Michael Buble and Drew Scott (from Property Brothers), as they try to bring the once-glorious Giants franchise back to prominence.
The Giants roster features Joe Iginla, the youngest child of Jarome and a recent Calgary Flames draft choice, and a clip featuring him and his father working out during the off-season – prior to Joe’s selection by the Flames – led to some speculation after Jarome’s speaking voice seemed a bit off to some viewers.
Our colleague at Sportsnet, Eric Francis, took it upon himself to look into everything and provided an update on what’s going on with Iginla, who’s a Hockey Hall of Famer, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, and currently a special advisor to Flames general manager Craig Conroy.
Iginla underwent hip replacement surgery a few years ago after a career spent absorbing the physical toll of professional hockey. Complications followed, along with medications that have affected his energy, weight and speech.
There are concerns that the cobalt-chromium components used in some artificial hip implants can release metal ions and debris through wear or corrosion, potentially causing complications as they enter the bloodstream.
He also had high mercury levels in his body and is working to get that down, while trying to determine if the cause is related to the cobalt poisoning.
The details don’t sound great, but hopefully things keep trending in a positive direction for Iginla – and Francis’ update puts an end to fan speculation about what’s up with Iginla.
Iginla retired from being an active player back in 2018, last playing in the NHL during the 2016-17 season. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on his first possible ballot in 2020. His three kids are all pretty high-end hockey players. Daughter Jade starred with Brown University and will begin her pro career with PWHL Hamilton this season. Oldest son Tij was a first-round pick by the Utah Mammoth in 2024 and went pro this season; he’s current with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners. Youngest son Joe is currently with the Vancouver Giants in the Dub after being a third-round selection by the Flames back in June.
Jarome Iginla rules. Here’s hoping he gets a clean bill of health before too long.
