After starting off their homestand with a tight loss to Anaheim, the Calgary Flames (7-9-1, 15 points) are back at it when they host the Philadelphia Flyers (4-10-4, 12 points). The Flames and Flyers both got out to rough starts this season, but the Flames have seemingly found their mojo after five tough games, while the Flyers are still trying to find their rhythm. Can the Flames inch closer to the .500 mark with a win over Philadelphia?

Today’s broadcast begins at 6 p.m. Alberta Time on Sportsnet West and QR Calgary! Tune in for Warmies before the game and After Burner following the game on the Barn Burner YouTube channel!

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:

Aydar Suniev – Morgan Frost – Yegor Sharangovich
Joel Farabee – Mikael Backlund – Matt Coronato
Matvei Gridin – Martin Pospisil – Ryan Strome
William Stromgren – Jonathan Castagna – Adam Klapka

Joel Hanley – Simon Nemec
Jake Middleton – Zach Whitecloud
Yan Kuznetsov – Zayne Parekh

Devin Cooley is slated to start in net, backed up by Dustin Wolf. The expected extras are Brayden Pachal and Maxim Tsyplakov. Brennan Othmann is also still sidelined day-to-day, but he participated in morning skate on Sunday. Pachal was called up from the Wranglers on Sunday, but isn’t expected to play.

This is the end of a pretty hectic stress for the Flames. It’s their 10th game in 18 days. Despite the craziness, they’ve played some pretty good hockey during that stretch, and the list of poor performances from the group is pretty slim lately. The challenge for the Flames is finding ways to generate more scoring at even strength. They’ve been surprisingly good on the power play, but they need more from everybody at five-on-five.

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:

Tyson Foerster – Christian Dvorak – Travis Konecny
Porter Martone – Noah Cates – Matvei Michkov
Trevor Zegras – Cole Knuble – Owen Tippett
Denver Barkey – Sean Couturier – Noel Acciari

Travis Sanheim – Jamie Drysdale
Cam York – Oliver Bonk
Nick Seeler – Simon Benoit

We’re projecting Dan Vladar to start in net, backed up by Joseph Woll. The projected extras for the Flyers are David Jiricek and Michael Bunting. It’s Vladar’s first start ever against the Flames.

The Flyers were on their way to a win on Thursday, until a third period penalty by Denver Barkey. And a Rangers power play goal to tie the game. And then the go-ahead goal a minute and a half later. That’s sort of how the season has been going for the Flyers: they’ve been finding ways to lose at key times in games.

They began the season winless in their first nine (0-6-3), then won three in a row, and more recently have one win in their last six games, going 1-4-1.

The Flames are without Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Honzek, Brennan Othmann and Kevin Bahl.

The Flyers are without Nikita Grebenkin and Rasmus Ristolainen.

This is the first of two meetings between Calgary and Philadelphia. They’ll finish off their season series in December.
