Calgary Flames prospect Matthew Coronato named to Team USA for World Juniors

The Calgary Flames will have a representative at the 2022 World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer over the holidays: precisely one. 2021 first-rounder Matthew Coronato will be part of the United States’ entry at the tournament. He’s the only Flames prospect named to any country’s national junior team.
Coronato, 19, is currently a freshman at Harvard University following a superb two season stint with the USHL’s Chicago Steel. He established himself as a premier goal-scorer in his age group, and that reputation hasn’t been dispelled so far in the NCAA.
This will be Coronato’s first time representing the United States at an international competition.\
Flames prospects William Stromgren (Sweden) and Yan Kuznetsov (Russia) were thought to be contenders for World Junior roster spots, but neither were named to their respective national teams.
The 2022 World Juniors begin on Dec. 26 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
