Is it too early to declare Chase Harrington as a top 10 Calgary Flames prospect?
What a start the Flames’ 2026 second-rounder is off to with the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs! He and all but one Flame prospect have officially began his season, including all their recent first-round picks.
Let’s take a look at Flames’ prospects over the week of Oct. 7-14!

College

All but one Flames prospect set to play in the NCAA, Harvard’s Aidan Lane, are in the midst of their season. That includes Carson Carels and Cole Reschny, who began their season this past weekend.

NCHC

The question is, how did Carels and Reschny do in their season debut for the University of North Dakota? Well, pretty well, as the Fighting Hawks won the home and home against Bemidji State by a score of 3-2 and 4-3. Reschny scored a pair in the 3-2 win, then added an assist in the 4-3 loss. Carels is still hunting for his first collegiate point.
Eric Jamieson and Denver were off this weekend, at least for college games. They played a game against the United States Hockey League’s U18 United States National Development Team, defeating the team 7-1. Jamieson scored a goal and picked up an assist.
Cade Littler and Arizona State resumed their season, falling 2-1 on Friday but winning their second game 5-4 in overtime, both games against Holy Cross. Littler was held off the scoresheet in both games, giving him just one assist through the Sun Devil’s four games.
This weekend, North Dakota played a pair of games against Bentley, one on Friday and the other on Saturday, both at home. Jamieson’s Denver’s next action is this weekend, as they host Henry Mews and Michigan for a pair of games this weekend. This week, Littler and Arizona State play a pair of away games against UMass-Lowell. Yegor Yegorov and Miami University (Ohio) were off this week, but they play two games against Robert Morris this coming week.

ECAC Hockey

Ethan Wyttenbach was the lone Flames’ prospect active in ECAC Hockey this past week, as his Quinnipiac defeated Maine 2-1 on Friday, but fell 5-3 on Saturday, their first loss of the season. Wyttenbach scored and picked up a helper in the win, then picked up two assists in the loss, giving him three goals and eight points in four games. It’s pretty clear last season wasn’t an outlier.
This week, Quinnipiac takes on Luke Misa and Penn State on Friday. Lane’s Harvard doesn’t begin their season for another two weeks, taking on UMass on Oct. 29.

Hockey East

UMass, home of three Flames’ prospects, Tobias Trejbal, Egor Barabanov, and Max Curran, tied RIT 2-2 in their game on Friday, but picked up a 5-1 victory the following night. The Flames’ prospects were held off the scoresheet in the tie, but Barabanov scored a goal and picked up an assist in the victory. The Russian has two goals and three points in four games, while Curran has been held pointless in the four games. Trejbal didn’t play this week.
Jaden Lipinski and Maine split their two games against Wyttenbach and Quinnipiac, falling 2-1 in Friday’s affair, but winning Saturday’s game 5-3. Lipinski was held off the scoresheet in both games, as he still hunts his first point of the season.
Trevor Hoskin’s Merrimack defeated New Hampshire 4-3 in a shootout, bringing their season record to 0-1-1. Hoskin scored his first of the season in the game, his lone point through Merrimack’s two games.
UMass plays a pair of games against Northeastern this weekend, one on Friday and the other on Saturday, both at home. Maine is off this weekend, but returns to action for two games against Colgate on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24. Hoskin and Merrimack play two games against Minnesota State, Mankato this weekend, both at home.

Big Ten

Jack Hextall and Cullen Potter began their 2026-27 campaign with Michigan State, defeating Northern Michigan 6-2 and 5-1 this past weekend. Hextall and Potter each scored in their 6-2 victory, but Hextall scored a second goal and two assists in their 5-1 victory, while Potter picked up an assist in that win. Through two games, Hextall has two goals and four points, and Potter has a goal and an assist.
Their rivals, the University of Michigan continued to dominate, defeating Alaska Anchorage 10-1 and 7-2 to move their season record to 4-0-0. Flames’ prospect Henry Mews, somehow, was left off the scoresheet, giving him two assists through the Wolverines’ four games.
Penn State and Luke Misa didn’t have a great start to their season, falling 3-1 to UConn and 6-3 to Sacred Heart. The Flames’ fifth-rounder in 2024 picked up an assist in the 6-3 loss, his lone point through two games.
This week, Michigan State faces RIT on the road, with that game coming on Saturday. The Wolverines have a huge weekend matchup against Jamieson and Denver, as they’ll play a pair of games. Misa and Penn State take on Wyttenbach and Quinnipiac on Friday, then Robert Morris on Tuesday.

Canadian Hockey League

There are six Flames’ prospects playing in the Canadian Hockey League, with one of their prospects ended up being traded this past week. Let’s start with the Western Hockey League!

Western Hockey League

So, the Spokane Chiefs may be the favourite in the Western Hockey League this season. They began their season 5-0-0 heading into this past week, but finally lost as they fell 4-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday. That was no problem, as they defeated the Everett Silvertips 3-2 on Friday and 7-1 on Tuesday.
Flames’ prospect Chase Harrington is the engine. Despite their first loss, he picked up an assist and a goaltender interference penalty. He was held off the scoresheet for the first time this season in their 3-2 victory, but made up for it with a three-goal, five-point performance in the 7-1 victory. Through seven games, the Flames’ second-rounder has six goals and 13 points, with 14 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of plus-12. Yeah, that’s a great pickup.
Those Thunderbirds didn’t have a fun week, dropping three games against Joe Iginla and the Vancouver Giants, a 6-3 loss, a 4-1 loss, and a 5-1 loss. Iginla picked up a pair of goals in the 6-3 victory and an assist in the 4-1 victory, giving him three goals and six points in nine games.
The Silvertips made a trade involving a Flames’ prospect, sending Bode Laylin to the Calgary Hitmen to play alongside Jakob Leander. Laylin made an immediate impact, scoring a goal and picking up an assist in the Hitmen’s 8-5 loss to the Red Deer Rebels (Leander was held pointless.) Neither Flame prospect got on the scoresheet in the Hitmen’s 5-2 loss to the Victoria Royals on Monday. This season, Laylin has a goal and three points in seven games and Leander has two assists in seven games.
Lastly, Mace’o Phillips and the Medicine Hat Tigers played a pair of games, falling 4-3 to the Edmonton Oil Kings in a shootout on Friday, then dropping a 6-1 decision to the Royals on Saturday. The Flames’ prospect was held off the scoresheet in both games, but Cole Reschny’s brother Dayton scored a goal in the shootout loss. Phillips has a goal and three points through seven games.
Harrington and the Chiefs play just one game this week, hitting the road and heading west to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday. Up north, the Giants take on the Penticton Vees on Saturday and the Prince George Cougars on Tuesday. This week, the Hitmen host the Hurricanes on Friday and the Rebels on Saturday. As for Phillips and the Tigers, they’ll head east to take on the Regina Pats on Friday and the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.

Ontario Hockey League

This past week, Šimon Katolický and the Sarnia Sting defeated the Oshawa Generals 4-0 on Friday, but fell 6-4 to the Flint Firebirds on Saturday and 5-2 to the Guelph Storm on Wednesday. Katolický scored a goal in the victory and picked up a helper in the 6-4 loss, giving him three goals and five points in 10 games this season.
The Sting are back in action this weekend, taking on the Saginaw Spirit in a home and home, hosting them Friday and traveling to Michigan on Saturday.

Europe

There are three Flames’ prospects playing overseas, one in Sweden (Theo Stockselius) and two in Russia (Alan Shaikhlislamov and Yan Matveiko). Let’s start in Sweden.
Sweden
Stockselius’ Djurgårdens IF finally picked up their second win of the season, defeating Örebro Hockey. Then they won their third game of the season, a 5-1 victory over Linköping HC. It was in the latter game where the Flames’ 2025 second-round shined, picking up a pair of assists to match his Swedish Hockey League total coming into this game. He now has three points in six games this season.
This week, they take on Brynäs IF on Thursday, Malmö Redhawks on Saturday, and Frölunda HC on Tuesday.

Russia

It was a high-scoring week for Shaikhlislamov and Tolpar over in Russia, as they defeated JHC Molot 7-6 on Thursday, but fell 10-2 to AKM-Yunior on Monday. Shaikhlislamov picked up a pair of assists in the win, and a goal in the 10-2 loss to give him nine goals and 17 points over 12 games.
Matveiko returned to Russia’s version of the American Hockey League (All-Russian Hockey League, or VHL). This past week, they defeated CSK VVS by a score of 3-2, then defeated Neftyanik 5-3. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a perfect week, as they lost 5-2 to Bars. The Flames’ seventh-rounder in 2025 was held off the scoresheet in the 3-2 victory and 5-2 loss, but scored his first VHL goal in their 5-3 victory. In 12 VHL games, he has a goal and four points.
This week, Tolpar takes on SKA-1946 on Friday and Koko-76 on Tuesday. Matveiko and Zvezda only play once this coming week, taking on Ryazan-VDV on Tuesday.
