Friends, it’s no big secret that it’s a tough time for the Calgary Flames right now. Through seven games in the 2026-27 season, they have one win.

But if you take a look into the future – the near future – there’s help on the way. The entry-level system will most likely see (at least) six high-end prospects playing pro hockey for the Flames or Calgary Wranglers in 2027-28. And most of those six players are off to strong starts in 2026-27.

Theo Stockselius, 19, is under NHL contract right now, but his contract is sliding this season and he’s spending the year on loan to his Swedish club team, Djurgardens IF, in the SHL. He scored his first SHL goal on Thursday.

Chase Harrington, 18, is under NHL contract, too, but his deal also slides when he’s in junior this season. He’s a late birthday so he’s eligible to play in the AHL in 2027-28. He had a hat trick this week and has emerged, pretty quickly, as one of the top players in the WHL as Spokane’s captain.

Cullen Potter, 19, is entering his third college season already – he entered college at 17 in his draft year – and is the first-line centre for Michigan State.

Cole Reschny, 19, is captaining North Dakota, and had a two-goal performance last weekend.

Carson Carels, 18, is Reschny’s teammate at North Dakota and is finding his rhythm as a true freshman.

Ethan Wyttenbach, 19, is off to a strong offensive start with Quinnipiac after being college hockey’s leading scorer last season.

it’s probably not unreasonable to expect all six of these youngsters to appear at the World Juniors this coming winter… and then head to join the Flames or Wranglers in the fall. Heck, some may make the jump in the spring.

Help is on the way.
