Hockey is officially back, as the National Hockey League kicked off on Tuesday evening.
While the Flames don’t begin their season until Thursday evening, their prospects in the Canadian Hockey League and overseas have been playing for a few weeks now. This past week has been a big one for a few of their prospects, as we’ve already seen a first goal.
Let’s take a look at the week that was from Sept. 25-30!

Junior

There are six Flames prospects playing in the junior ranks, all of them in the Canadian Hockey League. Five of those prospects are out west in the Western Hockey League, while the other one plays in the Ontario Hockey League.

Western Hockey League

Joe Iginla’s Vancouver Giants played two games this past week, falling 4-1 to the Victoria Royals on Saturday, but defeating the Prince George Cougars 4-2 on Sunday. Iginla’s lone point in the game was an assist in the victory, as he finished as a -2 for the week. Overall, he has a goal and two points in their three games.
Further south, the Everett Silvertips won both games they played this past week, defeating the Wenatchee Wild in the home and home. Friday’s win was a 3-2 victory, Saturday’s win was a 2-1 victory. Flames’ prospect Bode Laylin picked up an assist in the 2-1 victory, his lone point in the three games the Silvertips have played.
Chase Harrington returned to the Spokane Chiefs and was named their captain. Less than four minutes into his first game of the season, the Flames’ second-rounder in 2026 picked up his first goal. In the second period, he picked up two helpers, then fought in the third. What a way to make your season debut. Of course, he also signed his entry-level contract recently as well.
Moving to the two players playing in Alberta, Jakob Leander’s Calgary Hitmen defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings in the lone game they played. Leander finished as a +1 and has an assist through the Hitmen’s three games.
Mace’o Phillips and the Medicine Hat Tigers fell 3-1 to the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday, but defeated the Oil Kings 5-2 on Sunday. Phillips picked up his first career WHL goal in the win, giving him a goal and three points in the Tigers’ four games.
This week, the Giants take on the Penticton Vees on Friday, before returning home to host the Swift Current Broncos and Brandon Wheat Kings. Laylin and the Silvertips play another game against the Wild on Saturday, before hosting Harrington and the Chiefs on Sunday. Before taking on the Silvertips on Sunday, the Chiefs will play two games against the Portland Winterhawks on Friday and Saturday. Yes, that’s three games in a row.
The Hitmen hit the road to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday, before returning home the next day to play the Regina Pats. It’s a light schedule for the Tigers this week, as they host the Raiders on Saturday.

Ontario Hockey League

Šimon Katolický had a busy week with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting. Heading to Eastern Ontario, the Stint fell 7-3 to the Peterborough Petes on Thursday, beat the Kingston Frontenacs 5-3 on Friday, then smashed the Ottawa 67’s 10-3 on Sunday. Despite 19 goals, Katolický only picked up one point, a goal in their 10-3 victory. He now has two goals in four games.
The Sting will play three games this week once again. They’ll return to host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday, before heading back east to play the Barrie Colts on Saturday and Oshawa Generals on Sunday.

Europe

There are three Flame prospects playing in Europe, two in Russia and one in Sweden.

Russia

Starting with the two Russians, Alan Shaikhlislamov’s Tolpar kicked off their week with a 2-1 victory over Chaika, but fell 5-0 in their second game against Chaika, before dropping a 7-3 result to Irbis. He scored the game-winning goal in the win and picked up a goal and an assist in the 7-3 loss. The Flames’ second-rounder in 2026 now has seven goals and 12 points in nine games, leading the team in both categories.
Yan Matveiko, the Flames’ seventh-rounder in 2025, is back in the Junior Hockey League (MHL) after playing nine games in the All-Russian Hockey League (VHL). His Red Army fell 4-1 to Dinamo-Shinnik, and Matveiko was held pointless.
This week, Tolpar takes on Irbis again on Thursday, before taking on Krasnoyarskie Rysi on Tuesday. Assuming Matveiko remains in the MHL, his Red Army takes on Dinamo-Shinnik on Thursday, Amurskie Tigry on Monday, and Sakhalinskie Akuly on Wednesday.

Sweden

Over in Sweden, Flames’ 2025 second-rounder Theo Stockselius played 10:27 in Djurgårdens IF’s 3-2 overtime loss to Timrå IK. Stockselius still has one point this season, but will have a chance to add to that as Djurgårdens IF play Färjestad BK on Wednesday and Frölunda HC on Saturday.

College

Flames’ prospects in college haven’t begun their season just yet, but that’ll change this weekend. Most college-based prospects in the prospect pool begin their season on Oct. 2.
Eric Jamieson (Denver), Cade Littler (Arizona State), Yegor Yegorov (Miami Ohio), Ethan Wyttenbach (Quinnipiac), Max Curran (UMass), Egor Barabanov (UMass), Tobias Trejbal (UMass), Jaden Lipinski (New Hampshire), and Henry Mews (Michigan) all play on Oct. 2. Trevor Hoskin (Merrimack) begins his season on Oct. 3.
We looked at who each prospect plays in the previous round-up. Carson Carels, Cole Reschny, Cullen Potter, Luke Misa, and Jack Hextall begin their season on Oct. 9.
