The Calgary Flames are having a strong season in the National Hockey League, and so are several of their key prospects. In fact, their primary affiliate in the American Hockey League, the Stockton Heat, are among the top teams in that league too.
The Heat can actually clinch a playoff berth on Wednesday with a win and some help. Otherwise, they might just have to wait until the weekend to punch their Calder Cup playoff ticket.
Let’s check in on how all the Flames’ youngsters fared this week.

This and that

  • He’s not technically a prospect anymore, but D Juuso Valimaki has 12 points in 22 AHL games for Stockton.
  • G Michael McNiven is on Stockton’s roster but hasn’t dressed.
  • The playing seasons are over for F Mitchell Mattson (Michigan State), F Josh Nodler (also Michigan State) and F Demetrios Koumontzis (Arizona State).

Boltmann continued a slow offensive stretch of late, cooling off after a strong first half offensively. He emerged as a really solid top four defender for the Irish this season, though his offensive game lacks a bit of consistency.
Notre Dame was eliminated from the Big 10 conference tournament, but they are a contender for an at-large bid to the NCAA national tournament because of their strong overall record.

The HockeyEttan season is winding down and Vasby is third in Allettan South. Vasby will play in the quarterfinal round, where the eight higher-ranked teams take turns and choose their series opponents. (A few Swedish levels do this, and it’s super wacky and fun.) The playoff selection is this coming Sunday, with the best-of-three quarterfinals beginning on Mar. 22.
