As the Calgary Flames continue their pursuit of a Pacific Division regular season crown, the same thing is happening down in the American Hockey League. Not only are the Stockton Heat battling the Ontario Reign for the top spot in their division, but whoever comes out on top there could clinch bragging rights as the top team in the entire AHL.
As you’ll see, Stockton’s sustained success is being driven by a lot of strong performances by the Flames organization’s best and brightest young faces.

This and that

  • The playing seasons are over for F Mitchell Mattson (Michigan State), F Josh Nodler (also Michigan State), F Demetrios Koumontzis (Arizona State), D Jake Boltmann (Notre Dame) and F Matt Coronato (Harvard).

Nikolaev had a fairly typical week by his standards, with three points (two on the power play) as Tri-City keeps rolling along atop the USHL standings. Philp has been on a bit of a heater over the last little bit and it continued this week.
