The Calgary Flames have added a bevy of talented young hockey players to their prospect base over the past few years.

With all these additions, we had 38 players eligible for consideration in FlamesNation’s yearly summer prospect rankings. Not everybody could crack the top 20, but we felt like everyone deserved profiling given how deep the system has become.

Here are three more players that didn’t crack the top 20.

The older brother of San Jose prospect Michael Misa, Luke is a slightly under-sized offensive forward. He progressed really nicely across four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Mississauga/Brampton Steelheads. He was really productive offensively over his last two OHL seasons but wasn’t quite dominant, so heading to the NCAA to keep working on his game made a lot of sense.

Misa had what we would call a fairly typical freshman season. He was a middle-six centre for Penn State, usually playing on the third line. He spent the first half of the season adjusting, but he seemed to find his footing in the second half of the season. He had 19 points as a freshman, good for eighth on a fairly deep team. He’ll probably get more opportunities in 2026-27 as a sophomore given his level of experience and some departures from last year’s group.

Yan Matveiko was drafted in his second year of eligibility after the Flames saw some progression (and physical growth) after he was passed over in 2024. He’s still filling out physically but he’s been a pretty solid centre in Russia’s top junior league.

On a pretty deep junior team, he was fourth on his team in scoring and played primarily on his team’s second line (and in all game situations). He wasn’t a dominant junior player so he might have a bit of a tougher road to the KHL; he played a single game for the Red Army’s second-tier pro team, Zvezda Moskva, and he’ll probably get more opportunities over the next couple seasons after signing a contract extension. We’ll see if he can keep building his game.

Jakob Leander is more or less a less polished, right shooting version of Axel Hurtig, who the Flames selected late in the 2023 NHL Draft and has progressed quite nicely. Leander boasts size and a willingness to use that size to defend efficiently, but he spent last season on an HV71 junior side that really struggled and so his offensive numbers didn’t really jump off the page, nor did he get any chances to play pro hockey.

Leander’s headed to the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen in 2026-27, ironically enough taking the import spot vacated by Axel Hurtig graduating to the pro ranks. Hurtig came to the Flames with a more impressive resume based on some national team opportunities he had received, but Leander is a very similar player and time will tell if he has a similar growth pattern as Hurtig did with the Hitmen.
