The Calgary Flames have re-signed a pending unrestricted free agent. On Wednesday the club announced a two-year, two-way contract extension for forward Clark Bishop that carries an average annual value of $775,000, the league’s minimum salary.
The deal is worth $275,000 at the AHL level in both seasons, with $300,000 guaranteed salary in 2023-24 and $325,000 guaranteed salary in 2024-25.
A product of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the 27-year-old Bishop spent the 2022-23 season with the Flames organization on a one-year contract. He spent the entire season with the Calgary Wranglers in the American Hockey League, and had 11 goals and 23 points over 64 games.
Able to play both centre and either side of the wing, the left-shot Bishop was a really useful, savvy veteran presence for the Wranglers over their first season in Calgary. Originally a fifth-round selection of the Carolina Hurricanes back in 2014, Bishop has played 47 NHL games (between Carolina and Ottawa) and 308 AHL games (between Charlotte, Belleville and Calgary). A Calder Cup winner in 2019 with Charlotte, he’s a valuable player for a Wranglers club that was young last season and projects to be pretty young again in 2023-24 – if you want young players to progress, you need to have good veterans for them to play with and learn from.
Per PuckPedia, Bishop is represented by Allain Roy of RSG Hockey, the same agent that represents Bishop’s Wranglers teammates Jeremie Poirier and pending free agents Dryden Hunt and Matthew Phillips.
