On Monday, the Calgary Flames sent blueliner Yan Kuznetsov to the minors. On Tuesday, he’s back! The club announced on Tuesday morning that they’ve recalled Kuznetsov from the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers. Again!
Kuznetsov was up for three days last week during the club’s road trip, where he acted as their seventh defender after an injury to Dennis Gilbert late in the Flames’ win in Nashville on Thursday night. Kuznetsov didn’t dress in either game he was on the NHL roster for.
Via Sportsnet’s Pat Steinberg and his reporting from morning skate, Kuznetsov was on the third pairing alongside Nick DeSimone. Based on that placement, it appears he’ll be making his NHL debut on Tuesday night. Kuznetsov was a second-round selection of the Flames in the 2020 NHL Draft. Fellow 2020 picks Connor Zary and Ilya Solovyov have already made their NHL debuts this season.
The Flames are now at 23 players on their active roster: two goaltenders, eight defencemen and 13 forwards. They’re back in action on Tuesday evening when they host the Ottawa Senators.
