In advance of their game with the St. Louis Blues, the Calgary Flames have summoned some reinforcements from the farm. The club announced on Tuesday that they’ve called up forward Cole Schwindt from the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers.
This is Schwindt’s first call-up to the NHL as a member of the Flames organization.
Schwindt is a 22-year-old right shot forward that can play centre or the wing. He’s accumulated eight goals and 20 points in 37 games for the Wranglers this season. Along with teammate Ben Jones, Schwindt has been one of the club’s most consistent centres, with Schwindt’s game having more of a defensive bent than the Wranglers’ other pivots.
Schwindt was originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers. He was traded to the Flames in the 2022 off-season along with Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar in the swap that sent Matthew Tkachuk to Florida. He played three NHL games in 2021-22 as a member of the Panthers.
The recall of Schwindt bumps the Flames’ active roster to 22 players: two goaltenders, seven defencemen and 13 forwards. That doesn’t include Dillon Dube (non-roster), Martin Pospisil (injury reserve) or Oliver Kylington (long-term injury reserve).
The Flames host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday evening at the Saddledome.
