The Calgary Flames have made a roster move in advance of Tuesday’s match-up with the Arizona Coyotes. Per the club, they’ve called up netminder Dustin Wolf from the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers. The call-up is in response to a lower-body injury that has Jacob Markstrom out day-to-day.

Wolf has been excellent in the AHL, posting a 16-6-1 record with a 2.27 goals against average, .929 save percentage and four shutouts for the first-place Wranglers. The kid can flat-out play. He’s made five appearances for the Flames, going 1-2-1 with a 3.46 goals against average and .893 save percentage.

Per Sportsnet’s Eric Francis, Markstrom left practice early on Monday – head coach Ryan Huska noted in his Monday availability that Markstrom had gotten what he needed from the skate and downplayed the significance of the departure (referring to it as “a maintenance thing”). But it appears that there was an injury related to Markstrom’s early departure.

So far this season, Markstrom has missed 10 games due to injury or illness: Markstrom missed two games in November with an upper-body injury, one game in November due to illness, and seven games in December with a fractured finger.

For the time being, it appears that the Flames’ net will be tended by some combination of Wolf and Dan Vladar. With the recall, the Flames’ roster is now 23 players: three goaltenders, seven defencemen and 13 forwards. The Flames begin a six game homestand on Tuesday night against Arizona.
