After a loss to Colorado on Saturday night to conclude a back-to-back, the Calgary Flames (6-8-0, 12 points) continue their road trip – and a busy stretch of their schedule – when they visit the San Jose Sharks (7-7-1, 15 points). The Sharks are a really exciting hockey team, but they’ve been very hot and cold to start the season. How will they look against a Flames team playing for the third time in four nights?

Today’s broadcast begins at 8 p.m. Alberta Time on Sportsnet+ and QR Calgary! Tune in for Warmies before the game and After Burner following the game on the Barn Burner YouTube channel!

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:

Aydar Suniev – Morgan Frost – Yegor Sharangovich
Joel Farabee – Mikael Backlund – Matt Coronato
Matvei Gridin – Martin Pospisil – Ryan Strome
William Stromgren – Jonathan Castagna – Adam Klapka

Kevin Bahl – Simon Nemec
Jake Middleton – Zach Whitecloud
Yan Kuznetsov – Zayne Parekh

We’re expecting Dustin Wolf to start in net, backed up by Arsenii Sergeev. The expected extras are Joel Hanley and Maxim Tsyplakov. Per QR Calgary’s Derek Wills, William Stromgren will make his season debut on the fourth line.

The Flames weren’t great against Colorado, but they weren’t all that bad. Being slightly worse than a team like the Avalanche – a certified wagon – isn’t a huge deal. The challenge will for the Flames to get back to how they looked against Seattle and just do their thing. They’ve been superb on home ice and kinda clunky away from the Saddledome, so finding a way to bring that mojo on the road will be a step in the right direction.

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:

Will Smith – Macklin Celebrini – Collin Graf
Mason Marchment – Michael Misa – Kiefer Sherwood
Ivar Stenberg – Filip Bystedt – Tyler Toffoli
Barclay Goodrow – Zack Ostapchuk – Ty Dellandrea

Sam Dickinson – Jacob Trouba
Darnell Nurse – Michael Kesselring
Dmitry Orlov – Nolan Allan

We’re expecting Yaroslavl Askarov to start in net, backed up by Alex Nedeljkovic. The expected extras are Adam Gaudtte and Libor Hajek.

The Sharks are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Senators on Saturday. They’ve lost three of their last four, with the lone triumph being over the Vancouver Canucks – insert sarcastic comment here. They’re a young, talented group, but sometimes they struggle with structure and discipline. Sometimes they’re able to out-score their mistakes. But not always.

The Flames are without Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Honzek, Devin Cooley and Brennan Othmann.

The Sharks are without Logan Couture, Alex Wennberg and Igor Chernyshov.

This is the first of four meetings between these Pacific Division foes. They’ll meet again on Nov. 17 (in San Jose), Dec. 29 (in Calgary) and Jan. 14 (in Calgary).
