In non-COVID news, the Calgary Flames have lost a pro scout to a pretty significant job opportunity. Derek Clancey has been hired as an assistant general manager by the Vancouver Canucks.
Clancey joined the Flames as a pro scout at the beginning of this season. He was previously part of the Pittsburgh Penguins front office from 2007 until 2021, the last seven seasons of which were spent working under current Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford. Clancey served successively as a pro scout, director of pro scouting, and director of player personnel with the Penguins.
Clancey had a playing career that saw him bounce around minor-pro a bit, then he served as a coach in the ECHL (and briefly the AHL).
