Third time’s the charm?

The Calgary Flames (0-2-0, 0 points) have played twice, on Thursday at home and Saturday on the road. They weren’t very good against Seattle and lost. They were better, but still played an incomplete game against Vancouver and lost. Can they find their rhythm over 60 minutes in a rematch against the Seattle Kraken (1-1-0, 2 points) on Sunday evening? Time will tell.

Today’s broadcast begins at 6 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and QR Calgary! Tune in for Warmies before the game and After Burner following the game on the Barn Burner YouTube channel!

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:

Matvei Gridin – Morgan Frost – Matt Coronato
Sam Honzek – Mikael Backlund – Joel Farabee
Brennan Othmann – Ryan Strome – Yegor Sharangovich
Maxim Tsyplakov – Martin Pospisil – Adam Klapka

Kevin Bahl – Zach Whitecloud
Jake Middleton – Zayne Parekh
Joel Hanley – Simon Nemec

Given it’s the second half of a back-to-back, we’re expecting Dustin Wolf to start in net, backed up by Devin Cooley. Saturday’s extras were Yan Kuznetsov, Brayden Pachal and Connor Zary, so we’ll see if any of them rotate back in.

Alright, why are the Flames winless two games in?

They’re showing flashes of how their team should look, especially in the first half of their game in Vancouver, but it just hasn’t been enough yet. We’ll see if they can simplify things and have success in Seattle.

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:

Jared McCann – Matty Beniers – Kaapo Kakko
Bobby McMann – Chandler Stephenson – Jordan Eberle
Ryan Winterton – Berkly Catton – Shane Wright
Ben Meyers – Freddy Gaudreau – Mackie Samoskevich

Vince Dunn – Adam Larsson
Ryker Evans – Brandon Montour
Ryan Lindgren – Cale Fleury

We’re projecting Joey Daccord to start, backed up by Philipp Grubauer. Their healthy extras on Saturday were Curtis Douglas, Ville Ottovainen and Josh Mahura. We’ll see who might rotate in at warm-up.

The Kraken played in Calgary on Thursday and played well in a 6-1 win. They played in Edmonton on Saturday and were only okay in a 3-1 loss. When they play with speed, their forecheck can create a lot of problems for their opponents. We’ll see if they can get back to that against the Flames.

The Flames are without Jonathan Huberdeau.

The Kraken are without Jacob Melanson and Jake O’Brien.

This is the second of four games between Calgary and Seattle this season. They played each other on Thursday in Calgary’s home-opener. They’ll meet again on Oct. 30 in Calgary and Nov. 4 in Seattle.
