Calgary Flames World Junior round-up: USA beats Slovakia 3-2

The 2022 World Juniors kicked off on Sunday in Edmonton and Red Deer. The lone Calgary Flames prospect involved is Team USA forward Matt Coronato, who was in action on Sunday in Red Deer in a 3-2 victory over Slovakia.
Coronato wasn’t the reason that the United States won, but he was generally very good. He played on the first line (with Brett Berard and Matty Beniers), the first power play unit and the first penalty kill unit.
He registered an assist on Mackie Samoskevich’s power play goal and played 17:47, top among all American forwards. Only three defensemen played more than him among all of Team USA’s players.
In the other games:
- Finland beat Germany 3-1
- Sweden beat Russia 6-3
- Canada beat Czechia 6-3
Team USA is back in action on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. MT against Switzerland.
