The Calgary Wranglers wrap up their two week, six game road trip with a pair of games in Abbotsford, BC, against the Canucks. This will be their second series with Vancouver’s affiliate as their season-opening series in Calgary resulted in two 4-2 wins for the Wranglers. The Canucks have turned it around since then and come into this weekend on a three game win streak. Calgary on the other hand, is 2-3-0-0 in their last five games and just came off a mid-week loss against the Ontario Reign on Tuesday.

Notes and expectations
The Wranglers remain without their top scorer, Ben Jones, who was called up to the Flames earlier this week and made his Flames debut on Thursday. That has shifted the attention to another point scorer who has been more of the set-up guy, William Stromgren. Stromgren has been very consistent to start the season and was only left off the scoresheet in the first game of the season. Since then, he’s been on a seven game point streak he looks to stretch to eight or even nine this weekend.
The last time these two faced each other, Calgary had Jones, Jonathan Castagna and Aydar Suniev. However, in that series, a lot of scoring was found through the depth chart and didn’t fall on the back of just one guy. Axel Hurtig had two goals in the first half of their last series against the Canucks and Luke Philp, Mike Benning, Tyson Gross and Hunter Brzustewicz all had goals of their own throughout that two game set. Even outside the guys listed above, the Wranglers are running with some good and reliable depth that hasn’t had struggles scoring.
In net, you’d expect to see Arsenii Sergeev start the first half of this series as Kirill Zarubin played the last two games in a row. They’ve kept things pretty even for the netminders on a reasonable rotation that doesn’t require them to play back to back games on back to back nights much early in the season.
This series kicks off on Saturday with a 6:00 p.m. MT puck drop and will continue into Sunday with a 4:00 p.m. MT start time. Saturday’s game will be streamed for free on the AHL’s YouTube channel and both games are available through a subscription to AHLtv on Flo Hockey. Wranglers radio on the team’s social media and website also provides free broadcast coverage and Daily Faceoff Calgary contributors Ryan Pike and I will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
