After clinching the Pacific Division, the Calgary Wranglers earned a first round bye that gave them the past week to rest, practice and ramp up for their first playoff series in the second round. The biggest question mark around this scenario was who their opponent would be. After the completion of the Pacific Division games on Sunday evening, it was determined that the Abbotsford Canucks will be the first team to face the Wranglers in the battle for the Calder Cup.

The qualification rules for the Pacific Division allowed seven of the 10 teams to qualify for postseason play. This gave the top team the bye while the other six played a week-long best of three series. The lowest seeded Pacific Division winner would be the team to play the Pacific Division winners, in this case, the Wranglers.

The next round will be the Pacific Division semifinals which will expand the game structure to a best-of-five series. The Wranglers will have home ice advantage to start the series and host the Canucks on Wednesday and Friday for the first two games. Their next game will be the following Wednesday on May 3 in Abbotsford then Friday, May 5 (if needed). If this series is to go to five games, the fifth game will be in Abbotsford on Sunday, May 7.
