2026 Calgary Wranglers off-season tracker: Who’s leaving the Flames’ AHL affiliate?

The Calgary Wranglers roster as we came to know it in the 2025-26 season, is going through a huge overhaul this summer. Already into the second half of July, many players have found new homes through free agency or opting to take their career oversees. It may be a lot to keep up with so at this point in the off-season, here’s what we know.

Clark Bishop

The Wranglers’ captain for the last two seasons and second captain in team history has found a new home for the 2026-27 season. Bishop will be joining the Syracuse Crunch on an AHL contract as announced by the team on July 1. 

Martin Frk

Frk was the Wranglers leading goalscorer last season and one of the earliest rumoured departures this off-season. The first reports dated back to mid-June and it was confirmed on July 6 by the Dragons. 

Daniil Miromanov

Daniil Miromanov with 65 games with the Flames over the last three seasons showed regression in this season this year and spent most of the season in the AHL. Reports dating back to mid-May have Miromanov taking the KHL route with SKA St. Petersburg for next season, but it has yet to be officially announced by the KHL club.

Justin Kirkland

Kirkland is the only player on this list leaving the Flames organization for an NHL deal elsewhere. It was announced on July 1, that the Minnesota Wild signed Kirkland to a one-year, two-way contract. Kirkland had shining moments with both the Flames and Wranglers on his second time around with the organization but returning from injury and emerging young talent kept him out of the NHL lineup for the majority of last season. 

Nick Cicek

Cicek was thought to be one of the returning blueliners for the Fall to provide a missing veteran presence on the blue line. However, recently confirmed reports by the Dragons have Cicek joining his former teammate Martin Frk next season in the KHL. This news was confirmed on July 9. 

Etienne Morin

The former Moncton Wildcat champion, Etienne Morin, is the only player on this list so far to be moved in a trade. Morin was on his entry level contract with the Flames and faced some challenges on and off the ice in his rookie season. On June 23, Morin was packaged in a deal with two first round picks and a second round to New Jersey for Simon Nemec and Maxim Tsyplakov.

Lucas Ciona

The Wranglers’ two time man of the year will be getting a fresh start next season. Lucas Ciona played the last year on his entry level contract in 2025-26 and did not perform how he would’ve liked. He faced a bit of injury trouble in the last couple of months of the season and once qualifying offers came around, he was not on the list. Ciona has landed in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on an AHL deal as announced on July 13. 

Artem Grushnikov

Reports came out last week that Grushnikov is going to the KHL to play with CSKA Moskva. Grushnikov was packaged in a trade over to Calgary for Chris Tanev in 2024 and showed his defensive potential but didn’t have a breakout season in Calgary to earn a contract extension. 

Ivan Prosvetov

Prosvetov tried a year back in North American hockey in hope to earn some NHL back up time behind Dustin Wolf. He was with the same team Grushnikov is headed to in the 2024-25 season and joined the Wranglers for 2025-26. With Devin Cooley emerging and solidifying his role in the NHL, Prosvetov was left in the AHL and faced a lower body injury and mental setbacks that made for a very frustrating season for the netminder. He is set to return to the KHL next season to join Avangard Omsk. 

David Silye

The news of Silye’s departure is still pretty fresh but early reports have him going to the IceHL to play with Ferencvárosi TC in Budapest, Hungary. Silye served as a fourth line centre for the last two seasons and with the depth the Wranglers have down the middle this fall, he was pushed out of a spot. 

Connor Murphy

Connor Murphy has been a good sport about being a back up to the back up in the Wranglers organization. His main role has been with the Rapid City Rush serving mostly as a starter but when the call-ups or injuries happen in teams above him in the organization, he was a reliable call-up. The battle for the net in Calgary hasn’t gotten any easier so this off-season, reports are that Murphy signed with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Hopefully that gives him a chance to be a regular in the AHL and develop to hopefully get some looks in the NHL. 

Simon Mack

Mack was a depth defender for the Wranglers and got some overflow time with the Rapid City Rush at points last season. Mack was often scratched and played only really half a season’s worth of games. Next season, he is set to join HK Spisska Nova Ves in the Slovakia league alongside 2024-25 Wrangler Charles Martin. This was confirmed by the team on June 21. 

Turner Ottenbreit

Turner Ottenbreit is also taking the KHL route next season joining Frk and Cicek as the third 2025-26 Wrangler to be added to that roster. News of this roster update hit on July 18. 

Gavin White

White was announced as joining the Abbotsford Canucks as part of a group of signings on July 15.

Parker Bell

On Thursday morning, Czech Extraliga club HC Motor České Budějovice announced that Bell has signed with them for the 2026-27 season.

Remaining unsigned players

The door is not completely shut for some of the Wranglers unrestricted free agents to rejoin the team on an AHL deal. The roster as it stands could especially use a couple more forwards to float between Calgary and Rapid City and have reserve players if and when injuries come up. The remaining unsigned players from last year’s roster include, Brennan Othmann, who was given a qualifying offer and is still dealing with the business side of things, and Carter King, who was not given a qualifying offer. 
Not including King, whose landing spot is unknown at this point, the Wranglers have already seen 15 regular roster players from last season depart and sign with other teams in and out of the league and North America for that matter.
