The Calgary Wranglers return home to host the Manitoba Moose this weekend. They picked up two big wins against the Henderson Silver Knights last weekend but will be without their top goaltender in these upcoming games. This cross-divisional match-up puts the fifth team in the Central Division up against the top team in the Pacific Division. On paper, even without Wolf, the Wranglers are the favourites to take both games in this series.

Every week leading up to a Wranglers game looks different for this organization. The pool of available players varies with the frequency of call-ups and injuries this season. This week, the biggest roster move for this team was the call-up of Dustin Wolf to the Flames. Jacob Markstrom suffered a fractured finger in practice earlier this week and they needed their reigning AHL all-star to come in relief in Tuesday’s match-up against Minnesota. He also earned the start in Thursday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. With the nature of Markstrom’s injury, it may be a few weeks before the Wranglers have a chance of seeing Wolf in net again.
To backfill Wolf, the Wranglers called up Connor Murphy from the Rapid City Rush. This isn’t Murphy’s first call-up this season but up to this point, he has yet to play in a game for Calgary. Another move involving the Rush was sending Jarrod Gourley back down on Dec. 4. After signing Mark Pysyk last week, they didn’t need the other body around. Pysyk could very well make his debut with the Wranglers in this weekend’s series. 
This isn’t the first meeting between the Wranglers and the Moose this season. They faced each other in Winnipeg to open the 2023-24 season. The opening pair of games resulted in a split and the Wranglers earning three of a possible four points. The first game was a 4-2 win for Calgary then a 3-2 overtime loss two days later. Will their season series stay at a split after this weekend or will one team pull ahead with a sweep?
This series kicks off on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome and continues into Sunday afternoon. Friday’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday’s game starts at 1:00 p.m. The Wranglers will be rocking their Outlaw jerseys this weekend with some seasonal Christmas events taking place.
