One of the looming decisions for the Calgary Flames has been dealt with. Goaltender Cam Talbot has officially decided his new jersey number.
Talbot previously wore 33 in his previous NHL stops with the New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers. But David Rittich, affectionately known to Flames fans as “Big Save Dave”, also wears 33 and is the incumbent in the Flames net. Talbot noted during his introductory press conference that he would be selecting another number rather than trying to bribe Rittich for 33.
Talbot is the first player to wear 39 since Kerby Rychel last season. The most famous Flame to wear it was Doug Gilmour, who had the number from 1988-92.
