Calgary returns home after closing out a two-game swing through Southern California with a 2-1 win in Anaheim on Sunday, and has now earned wins in three of four contests going into Tuesday night’s game at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Capitals at Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Flames have addressed some of the defensive woes that plagued them during a shaky 2-3-1 start to the season. The team surrendered 20 total goals through their first six outings, but have surrendered fewer than two goals per game over their past four contests.
That includes a pair of impressive performances in their past two home outings. The Flames followed up last Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Philadelphia as -145 favourites at online sports betting sites with a lopsided 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings two nights later, and have now allowed just six goals while going 3-0-1 over their first four games at the Saddledome.
Calgary’s early-season success on home ice carries over a trend from late last season, when the team posted wins in 18 of their final 26 regular-season home games. The Flames also surrendered two or fewer goals in five of their final seven home games last season, powering a steady run for the UNDER in totals betting, which has gone 7-2-2 over their past 11 games.
The Flames have struggled historically against the Capitals, who arrive in Calgary pegged as +105 underdogs. Washington opened a five-game road trip with a 5-3 victory in Chicago as -135 chalk on Sunday, extending their current win streak to three games.
The Capitals’ surge comes as a major turnaround after they dropped four of five earlier this month, including three defeats by a single goal. However, Washington has been outstanding on the road in the early going of the season, posting wins in four of five dates away from Capital One Arena, including wins by multi-goal margins in each of their two away dates.
Overall, the Capitals have claimed victory in nine of their last 14 meetings with the Flames, according to the OddsShark NHL Database. That run includes narrow 4-3 wins in a pair of matchups last season, which lifted Washington to 7-3-2 in 12 visits to Calgary since 1998.
