Stockton Heat defenseman Connor Mackey has been named to the American Hockey League’s Canadian Division all-star team. The AHL announced his selection Wednesday afternoon.

Mackey, 24, led all Heat defensemen and first-year players with 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 27 games in the 2020–21 season. He ranked fourth on the team in scoring.

Among AHL rookie defensemen, only Thomas Harley, Calen Addison, Max Gildon, and Oskaari Laaksonen recorded more points than Mackey. Pick224.com estimates Mackey averaged 23:37 of ice-time per game this season while posting a relative on-ice goals-for rate of +6.45%.

Mackey is the seventh Stockton Heat player to be named to an AHL all-divisional team. He joins Glenn Gawdin (2019–20), Matthew Phillips (2019–20), Curtis Lazar (2018–19), Rasmus Andersson (2017–18), Andrew Mangiapane (2017–18), Mark Jankowski (2016–17), and Derek Grant (2015–16) in Stockton’s collection of end-of-season all-stars.

Mackey played his first six NHL games with the Calgary Flames this season, scoring one goal and adding a pair of helpers. He’s set to become a restricted free agent on July 28.
