Daily Faceoff breaks down the Flames’ top 10 prospects

We’re still in the aftermath of the 2025 NHL Draft, gang, and across the hockey-related interwebs, some of our friends are breaking down how the draft has impacted various NHL clubs’ prospect cupboards.
Over at Daily Faceoff, our pal Steven Ellis is in the midst of breaking down all 32 clubs’ prospect bases, specifically profiling their top 10 prospects. (Cheap plug: go read the entire rundown, as it’s a great barometer for every team’s developmental pipeline.) On Thursday, Ellis got to the Calgary Flames, and broke down the franchise’s prospect strength and weaknesses.
Here’s what Ellis had for the Flames’ strengths:
The Flames have a ton of depth at center now, using their two first-rounders to bet on middlemen with skill to burn. Cole Reschny is one of the best playmakers outside of the NHL today, while Potter didn’t let a smaller frame slow him down in college. If you’re looking for someone with more power-forward makeup, Theo Stockselius can knock guys down, and Honzek has experience at the center and the wing. Want an energy forward? Try Luke Misa, who is the fastest skater in the Flames’ pipeline. The Flames might miss a true game-changing forward – someone you could rely on to score big goals – but they’ve got plenty of center depth to work in a way they couldn’t have said a year ago.
For weaknesses, he notes – correctly, we would say – that the team doesn’t boast a top-line forward. They have depth, sure, but arguably no aces up front.
Ellis’ top 10 Flames prospects
Ellis did a great job breaking down each of these players in detail, so head over and check out his rundowns, but here’s Ellis’ top 10 in order:
- Zayne Parekh
- Cole Reschny
- Hunter Brzustewicz
- Matvei Gridin
- Cullen Potter
- Sam Honzek
- Jacob Battaglia
- Henry Mews
- Etienne Morin
- Aydar Suniev
Do you agree with Ellis’ top 10 breakdown? Does he have anybody way too high? Way too low? Let us know in the comments!
