The Calgary Flames’ 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning was significant for a few reasons. The Flames snapped a two game losing skid. They played a strong game. Jakob Pelletier made his NHL debut.
And Flames head coach Darryl Sutter hit a milestone, with the win breaking a tie with the legendary “Badger” Bob Johnson to become the winning-est regular season coach in franchise history.
It’s the 194th regular season win for Sutter behind the Flames’ bench.
Here’s the leaderboard:
- Darryl Sutter – 194 wins
- Bob Johnson – 193 wins
- Fred Creighton – 156 wins
- Terry Crisp – 144 wins
- Bob Hartley – 134 wins
Sutter’s second in regular season longevity as head coach with 369 games – trailing Johnson’s 400 games – and he trails Johnson’s playoff lead by seven games (Johnson’s 52 to Sutter’s 45) and two wins (Johnson’s 25 to Sutter’s 23).
The Flames are back in action on Monday against Columbus.
