The Calgary Flames have reportedly made a minor roster move today, returning winger Emile Poirier to the AHL’s Adirondack Flames.

The move is presently being listed by the American Hockey League’s transactions page.

Poirier, 20, was originally recalled on February 23. He played in five consecutive games after his recall – playing just shy of 10 minutes – but he’s been parked in the press box since playing just 4:48 against Boston on March 5. He had one assist over his tenure, but has been a healthy scratch in each of the last seven games. Calgary’s 22nd overall selection in the 2013 Draft was up on his first career recall.

With Paul Byron getting healthier and hardly any opportunities remaining to get Poirier into NHL games, it must have made more sense to send Poirier back to get some games in. Because the Flames sent him down (on paper) on deadline day and brought him back up, he’s eligible to play in the AHL’s playoffs if the Baby Flames make it.
