Eric Roy: Do The Flames Sign Him?

Way, way back in 2013, the Calgary Flames selected Eric Roy in the fifth round of the entry draft.
It’s two years later, and the Flames have two weeks to sign Roy before he becomes a free agent on June 1.
Roy joined the Flames organization as the 135th pick in the draft, chosen with the pick the Flames got for trading Blake Comeau to Columbus. Of the 2013 draft class, the first four picks have already been signed – Sean Monahan, Emile Poirier, Morgan Klimchuk and Keegan Kanzig. The final three picks, chosen after Roy, remain unsigned because the Flames retain their rights for awhile (European Rushan Rafikov and college players Tim Harrison and John Gilmour).
Let’s be honest here: if seems fairly evident that if Roy really wanted to sign with Calgary, he would’ve by now, much like Calgary would’ve signed Roy had they really felt they wanted to. There appears to be some kind of impasse here, though it’s obviously unclear which side it’s from.
Based entirely on the fact that we’re two weeks out and a deal hasn’t been reached, I’d be shocked if Eric Roy remains a member of the Flames organization after June 1.
