Everyone ready for Christmas? I usually leave all my gift getting until the last minute but I’m feeling generous so today my present to everyone is this weeks First Star, Worst Star!
FIRST STAR
The Flames are in a bit of a tailspin right, having now lost 8 straight games and dropping out of the playoff picture. But not to worry Flames fans, your team is still putting a highly skilled, highly entertaining team on the ice. Just take this goal from defenseman Dennis Wideman.
To hit the middle of the net, from the corner on the opposite side of the rink? Move over Giordano, there’s a new number one D-man in Cowtown! As far as I’m concerned it’ll be virtually impossible to knock this one out of Goal Of The Year contention, but if any team can do it, it’ll be the Flames!
WORST STAR
Most of us who grew up playing minor hockey got at least one shot at playing goalie. Most of the time it didn’t work out that well, because playing goalie is VERY difficult. Even the worst of us probably had a better outing than Ottawa Senators property Andrew Hammond.
3 goals on 3 shots in the first 36 seconds of the game. Even the Oilers haven’t managed this level of ineptitude this year!
I’ll give Hammond a pass on the first goal; it was a combination of nice passing from the Phantoms and horrific defensive coverage by the Senators, and he did the best he could to throw himself in front of the puck. After that though it was like his brain completely shut off and he had never even heard of the concept of hockey before. It was a game to forget, but thankfully for the internet this will live on forever and ever and if we really want to we can never let Andrew Hammond live this down. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
