Flames announce 2017 development camp roster and schedule

As the dust continues to settle after a whirlwind of moves by the Calgary Flames over the past few weeks, the business of the summertime continues. For the Flames, that means preparing for their annual development camp. The club today announced their roster and schedule for the event, which goes July 4-8 at Canada Olympic Park’s Winsport complex.

  • Dev camp will feature all five 2017 draftees and offseason signing Spencer Foo. There are sixteen invitees.
  • Austin Carroll, Stepan Falkovsky, and Daniel Pribyl are not attending dev camp
  • Emile Poirier is attending dev camp after leaving Stockton in February for personal leave
  • Kayle Doetzel, property of the Stockton Heat, is attending
  • Hunter Smith, Adam Ollas-Mattsson, and Mason McDonald are all attending their fourth camp.

Meet the invites

  • Kayle Doetzel: third pairing defenceman for the Stockton Heat last year, scoring two assists in 56 games. Made an appearance at last year’s dev camp. (6’2″, 194)
  • Connor Mackey: a defenseman about to start his freshman year at Minnesota State University. (6’2″, 165)
  • Mitch Reinke: an undersized yet productive defender for Michigan Tech (5’11”, 181)
  • Sam Ruopp: captain for the Prince George Cougars and former Columbus 2015 fifth rounder (6’4″ 195)
  • Josh Teves: a local product who put up 25 points from the blueline for Princeton as a sophomore (6’0″, 170)
  • Nick Wolff: freshman defender for Minnesota-Duluth, runner up in the NCAA tournament (6’2″, 216)
  • Tyler Busch: a forward from Arizona State University who finished tied for third in team scoring. (6’2″, 180)
  • Samuel Dove-McFalls: an unsigned 2015 draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers that was traded this off-season to the Rimouski Oceanic. (6’2″, 205)
  • Glenn Gawdin: former St. Louis draft pick who was captain of the Swift Current Broncos. Right handed and finished above a point per game (6’1″, 192)
  • Ben Hawerchuk: son of Dale. Smaller guy who went undrafted in his second go-around (5’11”, 174)
  • Jeff Malott: big, tough guy for Cornell (6’3″, 201)
  • Brad Morrison: former Rangers draft pick headed to the Vancouver Giants next year after a productive year with the Prince George Cougars (6’0, 170)
  • Mark Rassell: teammate of Schneider and Fischer. Effective left winger for Medicine Hat (6’1″, 185)
  • Alex Smith: 21 year old freshman at Michigan Tech who finished top ten in team scoring (6’0″, 190)
  • Max Veronneau: Princeton right winger who scored over a point per game this year (6’0″, 181)
  • Sebastian Vidmar: oldest invitee was a member of Union College team along with Spencer Foo, coming over from Sweden tour years ago. Finished with 41 points in 30 games.

The Schedule

The camp opens with medicals on Tues., July 4. Wednesday and Thursday feature both on-ice training and dryland training, and Friday July 7th features the prospect scrimmage. All events will be at WinSport.
