Flames at 2019 World Juniors: Slovakia with glorious triumph over Kazakhstan

Three Calgary Flames prospects were in action on Sunday at the 2019 World Junior Championship. The winless Slovakian team scored early and often en route to a rout over the equally winless Kazakhstan.
Slovakia 11, Kazakhstan 2
If you had read that Slovakia would give lowly Kazakhstan the biggest butt-kicking of their World Juniors to date, you probably wouldn’t believe it. But Slovakia scored twice in the first 32 seconds and led 6-0 by the end of the first period.
Kazakhstan scored twice, both times on the power play, but the Slovaks just rolled their lines, played their game, and seemingly did their best not to embarrass Kazakhstan. The best thing about the Kazakhstan performance was their goal song.
All three Flames prospects on Team Slovakia hit the scoresheet:
- Milos Roman had a goal, an assist, a minor penalty, two shots and a plus-1 rating in 14:10.
- Adam Ruzicka had two goals, an assist, a minor penalty, five shots and a plus-2 rating in 13:52.
- Martin Pospisil had one assist, a minor penalty, two shots and a plus-2 rating in 11:57.
Slovakia was expected to beat Kazakhstan, and they did. Thoroughly.
Up Next: Slovakia advances to the medal round due to their victory. Their round robin is over and they’ll finish fourth in Group B. They’ll face the first place team from Group A (either Canada or Russia) on Wednesday.
