The Calgary Flames are headed on a two game road trip that sees them visit Minnesota and St. Louis over the next several days.
Prior to departing on their road trip, Flames head coach Ryan Huska chatted with the local media after practice and provided a few injury updates.
Zayne Parekh
Parekh left Friday’s game with an upper-body injury after a hit from Chicago forward Nick Foligno. He was placed on the injury reserve list on Saturday and the Flames called up Daniil Miromanov.
“Well, he’s a week-to-week thing with an upper body injury,” said Huska.
Huska was asked about how challenging the early part of the season has been for Parekh.
“Well, things probably haven’t gone like he’s wanted them to go offensively,” said Huska. “A lot of the things that he’s done this year have been positive as well, but we all seem to put so much pressure on him that he has to be a 100-point guy in his first year in the NHL, and that’s not necessarily the case. It’s a hard league for a young guy to learn his way through it and then gain that confidence as he goes. I think he was doing that as he was moving on here. Now it’s up to him to do the rehab that’s necessary to get himself back ready to play. But again, as I mentioned last night, I think it’s all part of the building blocks that will allow him to be a really good player down the road for us as well. He’s got to go through some things. And unfortunately, this is one of the things he’s going to have to go through.”
Kevin Bahl
Bahl didn’t participate in morning skate on Friday. After being termed a “game-time decision” by Huska, he didn’t play against Chicago.
Huska was asked if Bahl would be an option against Minnesota on Sunday.
“We’ll see,” said Huska. “We’ll see how it goes. We think he will be. He’s on the ice now”
Martin Pospisil
Finally, Pospisil left the Flames’ Oct. 1 pre-season game and subsequently left the following practice after taking contact up high. He was placed on the injury reserve list at the start of the season and hasn’t participated in practices with the main group yet.
“I don’t really have any updates,” said Huska. “He’s still going to be a while.”
