The Calgary Flames returned to the practice ice on Friday in advance of a two-game western road swing. In advance of that practice, they called up forwards Jakob Pelletier and Walker Duehr from the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers.
Both players were on the ice for Friday’s practice at the Saddledome.
Pelletier and Duehr were assigned to the Wranglers following the Flames’ 6-4 victory over Chicago back on Dec. 21 (taking effect the following day) – that move wasn’t officially announced by the club but was reflected on the NHL and AHL roster pages. They’ve been yo-yoed between the Flames and Wranglers rosters since early December in an effort to extend their waiver exemption windows: up on Dec. 2, down on Dec. 11, up on Dec. 12, down on Dec. 15, up on Dec. 16, down on Dec. 22.
Pelletier has split this season between the NHL and AHL. He has four points in eight games with the Flames and 19 points in 20 games with the Wranglers. Duehr has also split this season between the NHL and AHL. He has one point in nine games with the Flames and 19 points in 20 games with the Wranglers.
Since both players cleared waivers prior to the season, they’re both exempt from waivers until they have either (a) been on the  NHL roster for 30 days or (b) played in 10 NHL games. Heading into Friday, Pelletier is waiver exempt until he plays two games while Duehr is waiver exempt until he plays one more game.
The Flames are hitting the road to begin their post-Christmas schedule. They visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday and the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. Their home schedule resumes on New Year’s Eve when they host the Vancouver Canucks.
